Sunoh 3.0: trio version

Cynthia, Anjali and Shyamala met over skype today and came up with the following for a new trio version. We cut a few things because of time restraints and also to stream-line the show thematically

Trio Order
-Preshow: Shy and Anj asking for audience stereotypes, Cyn puts them under live-feed
-Intro organizer? will there be one here?
-"Mixed Bag": trio (need to integrate Anj, see ideas below)
-"Learning to Walk Like Radha": Cyn solo
-"I see, but...": Shy solo
-transition: Cyn and Anj dress Shy? or intermission?
-"The Thorn, the Leaf, and the Butterfly": Cyn (speak), Shy (cloth), Anj (hands)
-"Tonsil story": Anj (Cyn and Shy manipulate cloth around Anj):
-look at showing footage, come up with some cloth imagery/possibilities
-"Ranri": Anj maybe learn Shy's part n Cyn as courtesan
-"Marks": Anj or shy film while other interacts with words, Cyn shadows on back wall

Some initial brainstorming how to involve Anj:

Mixed Bag: Integrating Anj
-Anj dances first section with us in a “pretty, feminine, Indian” costume
-as we transform (Cyn into butch and Shy into valleygirl, Anj remains in the image of feminine Indianness and looks at us with disapproval
-as we dance the chakradar (without sounds?), Anj narrates it as a "serious" padam
-Anj also tells Shy what to do in audience, but contradicting Cyn
-Dominitrix section, Anj is so shocked she can’t even watch

Tonsil Story: Integrating cloth and scrims
-Cynthia and Shyamala manipulate cloth on and around Anj to support her story
-circled or boxed in with cloth and later breaks out of it
-Cyn and shy stretch cloth long between them (like the screen in Bitter Salt), Anj stands behind it in yelling section, her feet are seen and her arms shout over it, maybe she bounces off it
-cloth can be the surgery table and then a bandag around her throat
-Anj can’t speak section from behind the scrim

From Duet to Trio

Now that we have the opportunity to perform with Anjali again at the Asian American Theater Festival, we are working reintegrate her into the show.

Here is the flow of the show at the latest location in Wisconsin (thanks to Christine Garlough).  At the end of this post is also the Miles footage (including Anj's and Babli's Skype calls) for reference.

Some questions to think about when watching the footage:
1. Where do Anj's pieces about the Tigress and about the tonsils go?
2. Do we keep the intermission?
3. How can we integrate Anjali into some or all of the existing material?
4. How do we integrate Cyn and Shy into some or all of Anj's material?
5. How do we integrate the cloth into some or all of Anj's material?
