Learning to Walk Like Radha

After developing the material during our Jan residency, I performed "Learning to Walk Like Radha" at Highways Performance Space on Feb 11-12 as part of my shared show with Prumsodun Ok, Retracing Histories, Redancing the Past.

Learning to Walk Like Radha
improvised choreography and performance: Cynthia Ling Lee

A talking dancer negotiates a really long piece of cloth while humorously commenting on the cultural collisions experienced as an American feminist attempting to learn kathak in Calcutta.  Learning to Walk Like Radha draws on Simone Forti’s improvisation structures and is lovingly dedicated to my kathak guru, Bandana Sen.

Here is video of the piece from both nights.  The password for both is "oh krishna".
