Feedback questions:

1. Can you detect a Superheroine in this video?

2. What do you think her superpower is?

3. Which one do you read as her signature move?

4. Can you figure out the story of this heroine, or a possible story?

5. Does the structure of the video work to tell a story?

6. Which elements work, which dont?

  1. 1. I don't get a clear, single super-heroine...but I get a sense of many facets/avatars of you (or the character), some of which seem larger than life (see 6 for which).
    2. Not sure. Making flowers appear?
    3. The arms held up and eyes going side to side (because it repeats the most often).
    4. The first stills of you posing heroically suggested a (super)heroine to me. The next video, of you in your winter clothes scrunching your nose, looking slightly frustrated, and then marking dance movement seemed to be you as your normal self. I then thought that I might see how the ordinary you transforms into the initial super-heroine...but with the inter-cutting between multiple images after that, I lost a clear narrative thread. I saw that the person (or persons) depicted traversed many contexts, seasons (snow, sun), cultures (Polynesian - the animated girl and the related video of you; Indian - mudras, sari, your physical appearance, German - your T-shirt).
    5. Hm. See 6.
    6. I like the frenetic, face-paced, almost MTV-like editing; the vibrant colors and imagery; the mixture of video and animation; the urgent percussive music. More than a specific story, I get a super-heroine feeling-tone through the kind of imagery you chose: the heroic poses of you and the statue, the edginess of the black leather boots video, the feeling of power/resistance when your gloved alapadma turns into a fist, the fierceness of the last chef-knife wielding image.

I found the moment with the circling disc that eventually revealed your eye very interesting, but wasn't sure what its relationship was to a superheroine or the rest of the video images. Did it have something to do with her gaze being powerful?

The last knife wielding image is provocative - I want to know more about who that character is!

  2. 1.) Yes, I detect a superheroine that is mysterious and intriguing, but not sure who she is
    2) At first I thought her superpower was to create choreography/performance from thought process directly to performance. I came to this from the first few images of you, thinking of choreography and then cutting from your lens into the colorful performance. However, after seeing the boot/leather chain/snow I'm not so sure
    3) Signature move is the eye movement side to side framed by your forearms and fists
    4) She seems like her journey goes from a somewhat unsure place to very powerful, assertive and sure of herself (leather/snow) and the last image with sunglasses, sword, and costume. I wanted to know what the "ost" sign meant
    5) The structure really drew me in with the music and graphics but I felt a bit lost in terms of the narrative
    6) I like the signature movement of your eyes and the way you've framed them and seeing the same animated character. I also felt the mirror hole you peeped through was another way of presenting your lens or the lens through which you see. I also like the shots of the environment outside and your journey through it as well as the still photos, even though I'm a bit confused in terms of narrative through line
    5)

  3. 1. The first and last images of you are somewhat Durga/Kali like. The first is with the lion over your head (instead of as your mount) and you are looking up into the distance. The last is with a Kali-like weapon or knife, and you have sun glasses and perhaps a crystal strapped to your forehead, which seems a bit more tongue-in-cheek version of Kali. I believe that image is actually the mad bollywood dancer, but I interpret it here more as Kali for some reason.
    2. seems like her superpower has something to do with her eyes? Either allowing us to see something or her to see something? Perhaps remembering something from the past or being able to see other places in the present like a clairvoyant?
    3. Her signature gesture could be Kataka mukha (first two pics), and the signature movement is the eyes side to side framed by the mushti hands.
    4. I don’t get a narrative.
    5. At this moment I don’t get any story though video can certainly be a medium to communicate story through.
    6. I enjoy the little animated figure with the eyes that go side to side and then bursts into flowers as a reoccurring theme. The fast intercuts with you doing a similar movement and with the driving music really works.
In general the video and photo images are a selection of such different approaches and aesthetics that somehow my brain doesn’t put them together right away.
